I got back from Florida yesterday morning, but I was too tired to write out a post because I was exhausted and didn’t get that much sleep while I was away. I slept great last night, now that I’m back home in my own bed.
I went with my mom and aunt, and my grandma lives there so we stayed with her. We were in Daytona Beach and surrounding areas such as Ormond Beach, New Smyrna, Port Orange, and Ponce Inlet. We flew out of Maryland on Monday morning and got to Florida in the afternoon. It started pouring down raining after we left the airport, but the rain eventually subsided. We went to Ponce Inlet to check out the Ponce de Leon lighthouse. Originally I wanted to go up in the lighthouse and take some photos out of the windows, but since it was wet and cloudy and I was tired, I decided not to do that.
I finally got to take my bike to the C&O Canal yesterday. I’ve still been unable to find a bike rack that works with my car, so I have to rely on my mom to put my bike in her SUV and take me places. She dropped me off and then went shopping. I got to ride up and down the towpath for two hours, stopping to take pictures along the way. I had a blast! I would like to go riding there every single weekend, but factors (like weather and other plans) might keep that from happening. I definitely want to go as often as I can though.
It’s incredibly peaceful and relaxing to put in some earphones, go cruising in nature, and feel the nice breeze blowing against you. I have to say, my bum is super sore today though from the hard bike seat. It’s totally worth it.
I don’t recall seeing a chance of rain yesterday, but suddenly while riding the clouds turned dark and the wind really picked up. I turned around and started to head back when I felt my phone vibrating. I took my earphones out to answer it, and it was my mom telling me that bad weather was coming so she was on her way to get me and would be there within five minutes. In a hurry to beat the weather, I completely forgot about my earphones and just started pedaling really fast to make it back in time. I made it all the way off the towpath and to the parking lot when suddenly my earphones that had been dangling got caught in my bike. They got completely wrapped up, and after untangling them from the bike I saw that wires had gotten ripped out. I put them back in my ears, expecting the worse, and sure enough they no longer worked. I was so mad and upset with myself! I had to go out today and buy a new pair. I only really like the Apple earpods, so it cost me $30. I’m definitely going to try to be more careful with this pair.
Today was Independence Day for us Americans, and I can still hear fireworks going off as I type this. Despite having a stale Cheeto as President, it’s still important to have pride in your country and remember its history.
I decided to spend part of the day at the Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland. I haven’t been there since I was a kid, despite it being so close, so I thought it would be cool to drop by and take some pictures.
Independence Day and the Battle of Antietam are two different things that happened in different months and different years, but I just somehow ended up there today. The Battle of Antietam was part of the Civil War and took place on September 17, 1862. It’s one of the bloodiest single days in America’s history. Over 22,000 soldiers, between the Union and the Confederacy, were killed or wounded.
It called for rain today, but luckily it held out until later on. The sky was dark in places, though, which actually made for some pretty pictures.
I’m an introvert and also a bit of a homebody. I prefer to be in the comfort of my own home without having to worry about being bothered. However, I’ve always enjoyed nature and being out in the sunshine. I like to sit outside on my work breaks, and I realized how much of a mood booster it is, even just being out for a little bit. That’s when I came up with the idea that I was going to purchase a bike. I used to ride a bike almost constantly when I was a kid. I loved it, and I’ve been missing it for quite a while now. I thought it would be a great idea to get me out of the house more, get more exercise, and boost my mood all at the same time.
I went to several stores before making my decision to purchase the black and blue Huffy bike. There were a couple bikes I found online ahead of time that I really liked, but unfortunately I could not find either of those in the stores. I did find a teal Schwinn bike in one of the stores that I really liked, but it was almost $200, and I did not want to spend that much since I still have some medical bills to pay. I’m pretty happy with the bike I chose though.
I took it out for a spin today and rode to a nearby park called Devil’s Backbone. The ride there was a breeze. I was able to just cruise most of the way, and it was quite fun. I stopped there at the park to relax for a little while. It was calming just sitting by the water, taking in the smell, and feeling occasional trickles of water splashing onto me. I took some photos while I was there.
