Outdoor Adventures

IMG_4157I’m an introvert and also a bit of a homebody. I prefer to be in the comfort of my own home without having to worry about being bothered. However, I’ve always enjoyed nature and being out in the sunshine. I like to sit outside on my work breaks, and I realized how much of a mood booster it is, even just being out for a little bit. That’s when I came up with the idea that I was going to purchase a bike. I used to ride a bike almost constantly when I was a kid. I loved it, and I’ve been missing it for quite a while now. I thought it would be a great idea to get me out of the house more, get more exercise, and boost my mood all at the same time.

I went to several stores before making my decision to purchase the black and blue Huffy bike. There were a couple bikes I found online ahead of time that I really liked, but unfortunately I could not find either of those in the stores. I did find a teal Schwinn bike in one of the stores that I really liked, but it was almost $200, and I did not want to spend that much since I still have some medical bills to pay. I’m pretty happy with the bike I chose though.

I took it out for a spin today and rode to a nearby park called Devil’s Backbone. The ride there was a breeze. I was able to just cruise most of the way, and it was quite fun. I stopped there at the park to relax for a little while. It was calming just sitting by the water, taking in the smell, and feeling occasional trickles of water splashing onto me. I took some photos while I was there.

The ride back to my house was less fun. I had just started my journey back when something creepy happened. I noticed a white SUV pull over near where I was. I didn’t think much of it because there was water there and people fishing. I stopped and just sort of looked at them wondering what they were doing. Then I got back on my bike and kept moving. That’s when I noticed they pulled out at the same time I started to go. I watch a ton of crime shows all the time and I’ve seen stories of women walking, jogging, or biking and they get abducted. I felt my heart race as the vehicle came up slowly behind me. I breathed a sigh of relief as they went past me and went on their way. Then I end up seeing a white SUV go slowly by me once more. I was sort of freaked out and can’t be certain it was even the same vehicle. Thankfully nothing happened. I’m still alive and was not abducted. The vehicle was most likely going slow because they saw me with my bike and wanted to be cautious. I tend to think the worst at times though.

The journey back was also rough because a good chunk of the ride involved going uphill. I had to get off my bike and walk up the hills because I just didn’t have the strength to pedal at that point. By the time I made it home I was sweaty, out of breath, and my legs felt like jello. It was definitely a good workout though, and I was proud of myself for completing my first journey on my new bicycle. I look forward to many more. I’m definitely going to have to get some pepper spray and a switchblade knife though. Just in case.

  1. I really had no clue about the white truck. I was always worried about you (as I always am for someone who is out alone) but the white truck stuff would scare me like crazy. It’s always a white or black van in the crime shows. I’m so glad you’re safely home though. It sounds like this was a great experience, and I’m looking forward to hearing more adventures you have on your new bike.

  2. Dude, these are the scenes you bike ride to? These photos are gorgeous. The scenery is beautiful. I ride around my neighborhood but just got a bike rack to go to more scenic places. I did a few posts about my bike rides as well called Impressions While Riding My Bike. And it’s always good to keep something for protection. Most of the cars that slow down are just checking me out cause… cute girl on a bike, you know. You’re going to get hooked on riding!

    1. Well, this was just a park a mile and a half down the road. I plan to bike other places as well, but first I need a bike rack or some method of transporting my bike. Until I get one, I’m going to have to see if my mom can drop me off places. She has a big SUV, so my bike fits in pretty well.

  3. Your photos are bringing back so many memories. I remember when I came to visit you for your 80s (birthday) party and you bought me here.

I still have my bike from my childhood/teen years sitting out in our shed, rotting away. The tires are basically popped/flat, but my Mom doesn’t want to get rid of it since she’s all nostalgic about that kind of stuff. Also, my Grandfather gave it to me, who has passed away – which is understood.

I’ve thought about getting back into bike riding myself, to get some exercise, but I haven’t had much energy to do much of anything these days. I know, it would probably help me feel better and I’m making excuses, but I just didn’t think it was worth spending money on since I probably wouldn’t even stick with it. 😛

    1. I definitely want to stick with it. As soon as I got back on a bike, I felt like a kid again. lol It’s so much fun and makes me feel good knowing I’m getting out of the house and getting exercise.

  4. This single entry had my emotions all over the place. First, nice looking bike. I’ve owned 3-5 bikes in my lifetime and have only used them for a while. I’m lazy. But I still want to buy a bike in a few months so I could ride around the village.

Second, those pictures / scenery are amazingly beautiful! I’m am quite envious of the view. I live in a 3rd world city and it’s not that beautiful so I make it a point to go out-of-town when I can. But I also like staying at the comfort of our home as wekk.

Third, giiirl, that SUV incident is scary. I too watch a lot of crime shows, I would have jumped to conclusions and think they were planning to kidnap me if I were in your situation. Kudos for being attentive.

    1. Aww, I’m sorry you live in a 3rd world city. 😦 Nature is beautiful all on its own though. It’s usually mankind that ruins things. There is very little gorgeous scenery here in my town. There’s a few places, but the really gorgeous spots you have to travel out of town for.

  5. Oh cool bike! I miss riding bikes…sadly never were many places to ride, but in the yard. And those pictures are beautiful! Of course I’m a sucker for anything with water!

Eek, but how scary! I would of been freaked out too! Glad you’re okay though! KEEP SAFE!

  6. You’re not alone when it comes to being a homebody! I am kind of a homebody because there is less risk in certain things. It’s great that you found a bike to go exploring around town! The views of the park are amazing!

Ok, it is not cool when someone is creeping over and making you feel worried about your safety. Good that nothing really bad happened! I know I want to buy some pepper spray @__@.

  7. Your photographs are beautiful! I love them! I am just like you – I’m a big homebody. I mean, I still like to take my son out to the park, library and for kid events a few times a month but the majority of the time is spent at home. I think also a big part of that is all the scary stuff that happens these days. I’m glad nothing bad happened to you while you were out!
